Eastern States 100
After all the learning and practicing we have done with ACS in the past year, it is time to put it to the test in a real life, though not full-blown emergency, mode. The time of the real Eastern States 100 race is coming very near and your help would be greatly appreciated to assist in keeping track of runners for their safety. Multiple stations will be open throughout the 36 hour period. Rather than signing up for any particular station, if you would commit to a time frame I can coordinate the coverage where it is needed.
I would appreciate it if people would commit to 6 hour shifts (or longer) but I am sure we can fit some shorter ones in. Also be aware that travel time to the individual stations could be up to 45 minutes. If we do not get enough people to cover all the stations we may ask some people to travel to a couple different stations during their shift.
The table below is the number of people we would need at various times to cover 100% of the stations.
Saturday, August 16
0530 – 0630 1
0630 – 0700 2
0700 – 0900 3
0900 – 1000 5
1000 – 1100 6
1100 – 1730 7
1730 – 2400 8
Sunday, August 17
0000 – 0300 7
0300 – 0500 6
0500 – 0630 5
0630 – 0900 4
0900 – 1100 3
1100 – 1300 2
1300 – 1500 1
Finish line will be covered by K3LSY and me but extra help there would also be welcome if the remote stations are covered.
We would like to work digital as well as voice at each station but don’t hesitate to sign up even if you are not comfortable with the digital stuff. We will provide assistance and can provide most of the equipment, including laptops. Of course if you have access to the county ACS equipment or your personal laptop and radio set up you are welcome to use that as well.

As we begin the 6th month of the year, let us remember the club’s next meeting will be held on June 5th at 7:00pm at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. June’s meeting will not be held in the normal conference room across the helipad. Instead it will be held in the smaller conference room on the left just inside the doors for Short Procedure. We look forward to seeing everyone there to discuss plans for the L.E.E.K. Open House special event station, as well as Field Day 2014.
To commemorate the centennial of World War I, The National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial will be operating four special event stations:
June 28-29 will commemorate the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on June 28, 1914.
August 2-3 commemorates the beginning of the Great War as the countries officially declared war.
September 6-7 highlights the Battle of the Marne, often referred to as the “Miracle of the Marne.”
December 27-28 will remember the 1914 Christmas Truce
